HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF VIRGINIA,
Fort Monroe, Va., January 22, 1862.

Maj. Gen. B. Huger, Commanding at Norfolk, Va.

GENERAL: I send herewith by flag of truce Lieutenant [John L.] Hurt, of the Pittsylvania Cavalry of Virginia, who is permitted to go to Norfolk on parole for the purpose of being exchanged for Lieut. D. S. Gordon, Second Cavalry, U. S. Army.
