Hampton Lee Scott

Obituary of John C. Scott, New Hope, Virginia.

John C. Hope, of New Hope, Va., died October 3, 1914. He was born October 3, 1846, and responded to the call of his country as soon as he reached the age of eighteen, serving as a brave and valiant courier under Gen. Wade Hampton, whose confidence in his courier was shown in many instances.

Comrade Scott was a member of Stonewall Camp, No. 25, U. C. V., and was at all times ready to assist in any way the cause he loved. He was a consistent, lifelong member of the M. E. Church, South, and very active in Sunday school work. He married Miss Annie M. Lee, with whom he lived happily for thirty-four years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
